The memoir was praised for its exquisite — the way every scene carried the weight of the real. Reading it, I felt strangely , as if the years of her memory had quietly into a single afternoon.
Everything the dictionary gives you
Highlight any word on any site. A sleek tooltip appears at the selection with the definition — no tabs, no searching, no leaving the page.
Word forms, every example, quoted passages with citations, nested subsenses, and clickable synonym & antonym chips — aggregated across the whole entry, not just the first line.
“Form of” senses and synonym chips are live links. Click decades and jump straight to decade — inside the same tooltip, with a back button for your path.
Copy a single definition, a quote with its citation, or the whole entry — formatted and ready to paste into notes, essays, or your own dictionary.
Send any word to the side panel and keep it open while you keep reading. Once it’s open, every word you select lands there — with a search box of your own.
Bookmark words, re-visit your lookups, and study them later. Everything is local — no account, no profile, no tracking.
Encountered slang, a modern acronym, or an obscure term? Etyr uses an advanced AI search algorithm to define words not found in traditional dictionaries.
Etyr transforms your new tab page into a customizable dashboard featuring your saved vocabulary and a daily curated word to keep your vocabulary sharp.
One tooltip, fully armed
This is Etyr’s full surface: part-of-speech groups, word-form chips, every example, quoted passages with citations, nested subsenses, and synonym / antonym chips. Click a chip to follow the word.

Local-first by design
Etyr has no sign-in, no profile, and nothing to “sync” unless you say so.
